Carrie's Kids - - - Where are We Now??
(June 2006)
The count down has started towards the end of the school year. Unfortunately, for some of my students this creates a sense of insecurity, fear of the unknown and a loss as to what to do.
Thank you Trinity Lutheran for opening your hearts and generously supporting "Carrie's Kids". This year will end successfully for 93% of Carrie's Kids. What does success mean to me? It means that:
1. They finished one year of school in the same school; or
2. They increased their skills and abilities; or
3. They overcame addiction issues or entered into treatment/counseling; or
4. Increased their level of attendance; or
5. Started to apply themselves in school; or
6. Became stable; and
7. Most excitably graduated or continued on to the next grade!!!!
Thank you so much for creating these incredible opportunities for Carrie's Kids. It has meant a lot to them and to me. As you know education is not a priority for students in transition. They have no idea why I am forcing them to go to school. But thanks to all of you, helping address their basic needs of food, water, shelter and a place to be safe, school has taken on a whole new meaning. Now I have students that just want to stay in school. (What an awesome problem to have!)
Currently, there are strong efforts being made to ensure that all of Carrie's Kids will be in some programming this summer, whether it be Summer School, a YMCA camp, Teen's Tour, Kids Club, BLAST, attending workshops at BSC, or much more.
I will be working all summer while school is out, to ensure that summer for them is successful. It is important to me to keep track of Carrie's Kids, and I usually find more along the way. Please keep all of these students in your prayers.
Together we have made a difference!!
